Since our founding in 1970, Nurminen Construction has grown into a multi-disciplined General Contractor and Construction Management company actively involved in commercial and retail construction in all sizes of general construction projects – including remodels, tenant fit-ups, additions, and new builds.

Our Legacy Brought to Life – Aarno Nurminen’s Founding Story
Upon arriving in the United States from Finland in 1959, Aarno has always been incredibly motivated and devoted to achieving his goals – constantly turning visions into reality. An excellent example of this is seen in his founding story of Nurminen Construction.
When Aarno arrived to the U.S., he started off living in New York City and working for Save the Children Federation, but had relatives living in Teaneck, NJ, where he went during most weekends to visit. He eventually moved to Teaneck, became involved in construction work, married, and with the support of his wife Sirkka, they began their own construction company – Nurminen Construction Corporation officially commenced work in 1970, for their first client, A&P Supermarkets.
In 1982, the office and warehouse relocated from 219 DeGraw Avenue, Teaneck, to our current building in Hawthorne, NJ, which has been the foundation of our growth and serves as a symbol of our commitment to excellence for our General Construction and Construction Management services.
Over the years, the business expanded steadily, and more employees were hired, including Aarno’s son, Pasi Nurminen, who joined in 1986, and later his daughter, Monica Nurminen Oake, who joined the company in 1996. The office processes were computerized, the office space expanded to accommodate the growing firm, and the company continued to adapt and grow with the needs of its expanding client base and the requirements of the industry, including training, equipment, and procedures. Through its growth, Nurminen Construction has remained well recognized and valued for its quality construction projects and for the authentic connection it forms with each one of its clients.
Driven By Talent – Employee Appreciation
Since 1970, Aarno’s vision has been rooted in leadership, integrity, and relentless drive, which has set the tone for uncompromising quality and long-lasting client relationships.
Today, this legacy is carried forward by a second generation of leaders – Pasi Nurminen, who holds the position of President and VP of Finance, and Monica Nurminen-Oake, who holds the position of VP of Operations. Their combined experience, along with the VPs of Construction, Richard J. Foy, and Fred Meo, each with over 40 years of experience, guarantees that clients are continuously provided with results they can trust and values that are always upheld.
From the earlier days of our company to where we are today, our workforce has continued to grow in expertise as we’re constantly adapting to new technology and showcasing leadership within our industry. Collaboration guides our decisions, and safety is intertwined in every action.
